Member Biography:
Bill Fischer earned a letter as a reserve lineman in his freshman year at Notre Dame, 1945. He was the starting left guard the next three seasons, was All-America in 1947 and 1948, and won the Outland Trophy in 1948 as the nation's best interior lineman. He was captain of the 1948 Notre Dame team, captain of the East team in the East-West Shrine Game, and named Most Valuable Player for his team in the 1949 College All-Star Game. He played professionally with the Chicago Cardinals 1949-53 and was assistant coach at Notre Dame 1954-58.
