Tony Dorsett was born April 7, 1954, in Aliquippa,
Pennsylvania. He attended Hopwell TWP HS.
He was All-America halfback three times at Pittsburgh. His
college career covers high standards in three categories. One
is All-America. He made one team, NEA, in 1973, the first
freshman to make All-America since 1944. As a junior he
made teams picked by the Football Writers Association and
Walter Camp Foundation. In 1976, his senior year, he was a
unanimous choice. Another Dorsett category is rushing
statistics. As a freshman in 1973 he set a NCAA one-game
record, 265 yards, against Northwestern. (The record has
since been broken). In national rank each year, he was
second, 20th, second, first. His four-year total, 6,082 yards,
set an NCAA record. A third Dorsett test is in voting for the
Heisman Trophy. In yearly rankings he was 11th, 13th, fourth,
first. No one else ever ranked 13th or better four times. In
1976 he also won the Maxwell Trophy. Dorsett went on to
play 11 years with Dallas and one with Denver in the NFL. In
1994 he was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame and
the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
