South Bend, Ind. – July 19, 2010 – The College Football Hall of Fame hosted the annual Enshrinement Festival, July 16-17, in downtown South Bend to pay tribute to the newest class of Enshrinees. On Friday, the Enshrinement Block Party brought the streets of South Bend to life with a tailgate atmosphere, which included a ribs cook-off, cornhole tournament, legends autograph session and live music. Friday’s events culminated with a spectacular fireworks display illuminating the South Bend skyline as guests enjoyed live music featuring Mack Pherson and the Struts and Stillshot along with award-winning ribs.
Saturday’s festivities kicked-off with the Enshrinement Grand Parade as families and football fans came out in full force, despite the heat, to cheer on their favorite Enshrinees. The new class of Hall of Famers greeted their fans atop specially designed floats. The action packed day continued with FanFest and a record number of spectators at the Pep Rally, hosted by Mike Golic. The Enshrinees received their official blazers on stage presented by ESPN’s Mark May in front of a sea of decked out football fans. The eventful weekend concluded with the Enshrinement Dinner and Show, hosted by ESPN’s Jesse Palmer and Mark May.
“The city of South Bend came out to show our Hall of Famers what true football fans are really like,” said Lisa Klunder, Executive Director of the Hall of Fame. “Each year, the Festival exceeds the previous year as we introduce the new class of Enshrinees and this year was no different.”
The Hall of Famers enjoyed sharing the honor with their loyal fans as well as their families and friends. The weekend was especially important for Chris Spielman and his children as they experienced another first after the loss of his wife last November. “When you experience the death of a loved one there’s always firsts. This is a first. We had the first family vacation, the first birthday, the first Christmas. This is just another first,” he said. Spielman was supported with a strong contingent of over 100 Ohio State fans.
